Where we are
Il Fienile del Vichiaccio is located in Ponte di Gabbiano, a small district of San Casciano in Val di Pesa, very close to the main road connecting Florence to Siena. It takes only 20 minutes to arrive by car in the centre of Florence — 45 with public transport.
Due to its convenient position, Vichiaccio represents an excellent base if you wish to visit the area of Chianti Classico, Florence, San Gimignano and Siena. It is also a good starting point for visiting the famous cities of Lucca and Pisa and the historic villages of Impruneta, Greve in Chianti and San Casciano Val di Pesa (a 12th century fortified village, which in the past has been a subject of dispute between Florence and Siena for a long time). The Tyrrhenian coast, with its famous seaside resorts of Castiglioncello, San Vincenzo and Livorno, is also within reach.
How to get to Borgo di Vichiaccio
Il Fienile del Vichiaccio is about 10 km away from Greve di Chianti, a town renowned for wine production, and just as far from San Casciano Val di Pesa. Located 20 km from Florence and 40 km from Siena, Vichiaccio is easily reachable from both the A1 Milan/Rome motorway and the Florence-Siena national road.
With your own transport
Renting a car is the best solution to be independent and visit our region.
The best way to reach the place is to use Google Maps and enter IL VICHIACCIO COUNTRY HOUSE as your destination and when you are in front of the entrance to the CASTELLI DEL GREVEPESA wineries, take the road on your right for 50 meters and then turn left onto VIA VICOLABATE.
Take this road and after 100 meters you will find on your right the entrance to our private road at number 32, with the indication IL VICHIACCIO. The private dirt road, approximately 500 meters long, will lead you, at the end of a short and steep climb, to the village of Vichiaccio — You have arrived!
From the A1 Milan – Rome motorway
Exit the A1 motorway at 'Impruneta' and continue towards San Casciano (SS. N°2). After about 8 km, in Falciani, turn left and follow the signs for Greve in Chianti. After passing the town of Ferrone, in front of the entrance to the CASTELLI DEL GREVEPESA wineries, turn right towards San Casciano and immediately afterwards left into Via Vicolabate. Follow the dirt road for a few meters and immediately turn right, at number 32.
For those coming from Peretola airport or Santa Maria Novella central train station
Taxis
It is possible to reach the accommodation by taxi, which you will find available both at the Santa Maria Novella central train station and at the airport: 4242.it.
Public transportation
A bus service is available to reach the accommodation. The bus service to/from Florence is provided by the AT-Bus company. To check bus times and routes you can download the free app, with which you can also purchase tickets (also available in English). You can also search for lines, stops and timetables wherever you are: at-bus.it/it/app.
Bus no. 365 A GAIOLE-RADDA-GREVE-FIRENZE (VIA FERRONE), which serves our area, leaves from the Piazza Vittorio Veneto Terminal, reachable from the Central Train Station with the T1 Tramway getting off at Porta al Prato-Leopolda, or from FLORENCE HUB Montelungo, both very near the central train station. By bus it takes about 40/45 minutes to get here. The GABBIANO bus stop is about 800 meters from the house: we can help you with your luggage.
We always recommend checking the timetables carefully, especially for holidays, when the service is reduced, and for any return journey.
Car rental with driver
On request, thanks to the collaboration with our partner Tuscany Experience Tours, it is possible to organize a transport service to and from the Florence Peretola airport or the Florence Santa Maria Novella railway station.
